False Sycomore Fig

Ficus Ha-Shikma ~ פיקוס השיקמה

Scientific name: Ficus sycomorus  / Family: Moraceae

False sycomore figs are unmistakable: they are large trees, with thick trunks and leathery leaves, which makes them one of the most prominent trees growing in Israel’s coastal plain. Unfortunately, they are now in danger of extinction due to habitat reduction resulting from the accelerated development of this area.
