Terebinth

Elah Erets-Yisraelit ~ אלה ארץ ישראלית

Scientific name: Pistacia palaestina  / Family: Anacardiaceae

Terebinths have an interesting feature: they have galls (abnormal tissue growths) that look just like fruit, and are many times confused for fruit. How can we tell them apart? The real fruit are small rounded berries, whereas the galls are long, pod-like structures hanging from terebinth branches that look like fruit but are actually filled with small spider-like creatures called aphids.
