Nothing can equal a juicy fig if you are a tired
hiker – or a bird, fox or goat – stopping by a spring for a rest.
All over northern and central Israel figs begin to ripen on trees in
August. They can be found near springs, ancient cisterns and
orchards; KKL-JNF plants them as part of its efforts to improve
forest biodiversity.
