KKL-JNF Created an Accessible Single-Track at Givat Hatzir #17740

KKL-JNF created a one-of-a-kind single-track, the first in Israel suitable for tandem and hand bicycles used by people whose movement is limited, visually impaired or on the spectrum. The trail traverses Galilean oak forest groves and colorful flowers regions, and will serve local residents, especially the Bedouin population who live in nearby communities. The trail is a social justice project that provides sports activities and accessibility to a nature site for all of Israel's various populaces. The goal of the bicycle trail is to expose bicycling in nature to people with special needs and to give them the experience of bicycling in a natural forest. The trail is constructed from tightly-packed earth that provides a total sensation of outdoors bicycling. Explanatory signage and accessible sitting corners will be installed next to each entrance to the trail.

Jordan Park - Nature Trail for People with Disabilities #17729

KKL-JNF has established an accessible path adapted for people with special needs in the Jordan Park, located on the northern border of the Sea of Galilee. The project is designed to make the fun the experiences and attractions available at the Jordan Park accessible to everyone, especially people with mobility, hearing and vision disabilities. The trail will pass through the attractions located close to the river and will allow every person to enjoy nature from up close and allow them to feel it with all their senses. Among the attractions along this trail are "The Fishing Trail" parallel to the flowing stream, "The Aqueduct Trail", and "The Great Sycamore Trail"—so named after an imposing old sycamore tree that grows there. The new path will also pass through a special attraction recently developed in the Jordan Park which has been adapted for unique multi-sensory night time experiences and activities; hikers are exposed to the park's history through holograms, to "talking" trees and basalt stones whose stories intermingle with the forest noises, and sounds and sights of fireflies and other night-time creatures. The accessible path will also have a meditation corner and a passage through a thicket of reeds, lit by lanterns. The trail meets up with the lush and spectacular Jordan River in several places. The length of the accessible path is about one kilometer. The work for its construction included: clearing the designated path, scattering and improving bedding, laying down basalt stone flooring, asphalt concrete casting, construction of accessible seating areas and benches, signage and road signs.
