KKL-JNF preserves open spaces for a sustainable environment, in which it develops community forests, urban parks, community gardens, and biofilters, among projects to improve urban environments.
 
Plans and develops community forests and works cooperatively with residents on a range of community forest related activities: ~25

Involves the public in planning forests near cities
Constructed urban bike trails that connect to forests and between neighborhoods, workplaces, industrial zones and residential areas, schools, and leisure and recreation sites: ~234 km
Prepared land for agriculture: ~100,000 hectares (250,000 acres) in ~1,000 communities, providing decent livelihoods for farmers in the periphery
Prepared land for olive groves: ~1,756 hectares;4,391 ac, providing livelihoods for farmers (~294 ha;735 ac, northern region; ~1,421 ha; 3,552 ac, central region; ~42 ha;105 ac, southern region)
Provides tree saplings for regional and local councils: ~300,000 annual average  
Constructs and runs the KKL-JNF Heritage Centers, providing youth in the periphery with opportunities for academic and social development. Currently, 2 active facilities (Nof HaGalil and Kiryat Malakhi) and 8 planned (Sderot, Ofakim Beit She'an, Kiryat Shmona, Tzfat, Akko, Be'er Sheva and Migdal HaEmek) 
Manages Israel's forests and promotes master plans for their conservation for the enjoyment and well-being of all the country's residents, providing a variety of ecosystem services through community engagement
Provides forest education programs, including "Forest Gardens", in which kindergarten and elementary schoolchildren regularly enjoy a day of learning in forest settings; an opportunity to connect with nature and where they engage in activities to develop social skills, among others
