The committee of experts convened following the disastrous Carmel wildfire this last December has formulated recommendations to mitigate the consequences of future fires. The proposed solution is to create firebreaks around settlements – strips of land 25 meters across cleared of trees – that will hopefully stop the progress of fires and avoid damage to surrounding communities.
