"When the Holy One Blessed Be He created the first man he took him and showed him all the trees of the Garden of Eden and said to him: "See my works, how beautiful and praiseworthy they are; and I created all of it for you. Be careful not to spoil or destroy my world because if you spoil it, there will be no one after you to repair it“ (Kohelet Rabba 7:13). |
KKL-JNF has planted extensive forests throughout Israel with the help of our friends in Israel and worldwide. As new forestry approaches have developed at KKL-JNF, we have focused on diversifying planted forests and caring for the broad-leaved woodlands and orchards characteristic of our region. Thanks to our policy of opening our forests to the public at large and enhancing biodiversity, a visit to a KKL-JNF forest stimulates the senses and strengthens the bond between people and nature. The trees of Israel are one of the most valued elements in the Israeli landscape, and beautify our forests and woodlands. Dozens of broad-leaved tree species, fruit trees and non-fruit bearing trees, color our recreation areas in ever changing hues that change with the seasons, attracting people and wildlife to the forest. In honor of the International Year of the Forests we would like to introduce you to some of the fascinating trees KKL-JNF plants in its forests. Every month we will focus on one species that typifies the season and acquaint you with various biblical quotes, facts, legends and traditions associated with it, as well as the forests in which it is found and the countries that have contributed to them.
